Tea Tree's Story
Tea Tree has a “can do “ attitude and is one of the most versatile of all oils. Even though there are very few things that Tea Tree will have difficulty doing, his expertise lies in cleanliness and keeping things spick and span- which probably explains his shining success as a nurse.
His house is always shining and the air in there is always brimming with freshness. His help in the cleanliness department of things is so wanted that one might wonder whether Tea Tree has a side business in the form of a cleaning service. But don’t think his abilities stop here; He’s also the trusted skin coach, quietly tackling breakouts and helping complexions clear up with confidence. And while he may seem like a germ-obsessed perfectionist, his close friends know he’s actually a gentle soul—just ask Lavender.
Proven Benefits
Immunity
Tea Tree’s antimicrobial, antiviral, and anti-allergy properties make it a strong immune ally. Diffusion eliminates dermatophytes and Candida (Lang & Buchbauer, 2012), and Staphylococcus including MRSA (Edward-Jones et al., 2004). It may also help against influenza (Garozzo et al., 2009).
Respiratory Health
Eases congestion and allergy-related respiratory issues. 1,8 cineole acts as an expectorant (Ulmer & Schott, 1991 cited by Bowles, 2003), while terpinen-4-ol reduces inflammation (Lahlou et al., 2003) and suppresses histamine release (Brand et al., 2002; Koh et al., 2002).
Oral Care
Analgesic and anti-infectious actions help prevent gum disease, oral candidiasis, and ease dental pain.
Skin Health
Tea Tree clears acne thanks to its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory actions (Enshaieh et al., 2007). At up to 5% dilution, it reduces pimples; terpinen-4-ol, α-terpineol, and α-pinene act against S. epidermidis, S. aureus, and P. acnes (Sinah et al., 2014). Antifungal activity is enhanced when blended with Lavender.
